FAQ

1. Are you from Bloomington, Indiana?

No.

2. Are you from Bloomington, Illinois?

No.

3. Well, what Bloomington are you from?

Bloomington, Minnesota.  Home of the Mall of America.

4. Are you guys brothers?

No.

5. Are your lyrics for your “Photograph” reinterpretation true?

Yes.

6. When did you start working together?

We’ve made movies together since college, starting in 2002.  Back then the characters we played in our sketches were far more bizarre. (CLICK HERE TO SEE OUR FIRST SKETCH – FROM 2002) Russian immigrant snow shovelers, destitute mob bosses, badminton champions, hamburgers, the list goes on. But back in those days, without youtube or the viral video craze – the videos were basically for us to have fun making.  We didn’t really have an audience in mind besides a couple friends we’d pass out VHS copies to. I think as the public’s interest in 2 minute funny videos grew, so did our ability to write and direct stuff that could appeal to a wider audience. We shot a few short films, put on a play or two, and then realized those sorts of things take way too much work for a small, finite audience. But when we wrote, shot, and edited a video in a day (which is usually our goal) – we could throw it up online and an infinite number of people would have access to it.  Online it pays more to be prolific than perfect, so we try to make a lot of videos.

7. Did you go to school for film?

Yes!  We both attended Northwestern University and majored in film.  The major is technically called Radio/TV/Film — but you can focus on whatever you want, and we both did a ton of tv/film production.  They have an awesome program.  A lot of film schools are two years — NU is 4 years, so you’re making movies and using camera and editing stuff right away freshman year.  It’s great. We were also both a part of NSTV, Northwestern’s sketch comedy group.

8. What equipment do you use?

We started shooting on Panasonic DVX100s, then shot on Sony XDCams (EX1′s and EX3′s).  Currently we have a Sony HVRZ5U that we shoot everything on.  We edit everything on Final Cut Pro.  The only other equipment we ever use is a shotgun mic. Occasionally we’ll use an actual tripod — but most of the time we just set the camera on a nearby table or whatever.

9. In real life are you guys anything like your characters?

100%
